Upgrade or Replace?
If you are happy with your computer's current performance, then there is no real need to upgrade. However, if you are still using Windows 98, or your current processor is less than 1.5 GHz, a new computer will be significantly faster.
If you are using a dial-up service to connect to the internet (as opposed to cable or DSL), a faster computer will still surf the internet slowly.
There are two upgrades worth doing: increasing computer memory if you currently have only 528MB (or less), and increasing storage capacity if your current harddrive is nearly full. A full harddrive will degrade system performance as will running multiple programs simultaneously without a lot of memory.
